If you're using QZDoom then you can play the map (say, bricks.wad) by dragging and dropping it onto qzdoom.exe, then it should be very simple to figure it out from there. Once you get a copy of Doom II you will need to find a source port for Doom, if you're new to Doom, I would recommend QZDoom as it's very easy to use.
